Fruit-Infused Water: Deliciously Improve Sleep, Reduce Pain, Inflammation & More

MKE.jpg

In Mexico, it’s known as “agua fresca”. Delicious, icy, fruit-infused water that always seems to hit the spot no matter which flavor you happen to have in your hand. They come in all the colors of the rainbow, every fruit you can imagine, and they happen to be great for your health too. Thankfully in recent years, agua fresca has migrated north.

Pushing past the oh-so-American run of the mill lemonade, the fruit-infused water trend has moved into some deeper flavor territory. Suddenly there are some really yummy flavored waters out there. Which is fantastic, because we humans need water.

Water is necessary for all of our systems to run efficiently. From blood circulation to absorption of nutrients to the elimination of waste, it’s all made easier and better when our bodies are hydrated. But the thing about water is that it can be a little boring and bland. Not everyone drinks enough of it, perhaps because it’s not all that exciting. Most of us don’t really crave it, at least not in the way we crave other foods. But water also happens to be a perfect vehicle for vitamins and nutrients, so why not change things up a little?

Fruit-infused water recipes are what you need right now.

Reduce inflammation with pineapple and fennel

Bromelain is the magical enzyme in pineapple that we’ve come to know as an anti-inflammatory. Not only does bromelain speed healing, but it even reduces aches and pains while you’re convalescing. Coupled with fennel, the anise flavor is a love note to your digestive system, helping reduce inflammation throughout your gut.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups of hot water
  • ½ cup of pineapple chunks
  • 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds

Directions

  1. Cut a whole pineapple into chunks.
  2. Place the pineapple in a glass container with 8 glasses of hot water.
  3. When completely cooled, add the fennel seeds. Soak overnight.
  4. Strain the seeds out if you prefer, or leave them in.

Vitamin C Bomb: Cucumber, Lemon, and Mint Water

There is a whole lot of vitamin C and antioxidants happening in this water! Cucumber is packed with vitamins and minerals, particularly the flesh which offers vitamin C and caffeic acid which reduces inflammation. The lemons add an extra boost of Vitamin C, and contain flavonoids and lemonin which strengthen your cells and assist with detoxification. Mint adds that great flavor of course, and also contains a powerful antioxidant; a phytonutrient called monoterpene. Mix these all together and you have a dream team of vitamins and antioxidants in a glass.

Directions

In a glass container add 8 glasses of water, ½ cucumber sliced, 2 lemons sliced, and a small handful of mint leaves. Refrigerate overnight and enjoy!

Improve Sleep with Cherry, Cinnamon and Lemon Water

Fun fact: cherries promote healthy sleep, thanks to their melatonin content! They are also high in heart-healthy anthrocyanins which are also anti-inflammatory. Cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar. The lemons add some always-welcome vitamin C to the mix.

Directions

To a warm glass of water, add ½ cup of pitted cherries, 2 slices of lemon, and a pinch of cinnamon. Leave for several minutes to steep. Drink before bed, and enjoy a restful sleep.

A Personal Testimonial

CBDbottle.jpgI don’t often align myself with products but this is one that I just had to share! My name is Michelle Toole and I am the founder of Healthy-Holistic-Living.com.

Some of you may already know, years ago, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

I can still recall what it felt like to have my life change overnight…

I went from an Executive Director of a non-profit organization, running marathons, rock climbing, hiking canyons and kayaking to being completely bedridden and staring at a wall for 15 hours a day.

Of course, I went to see many doctors but unfortunately I didn’t find the help I needed. So, I had to set off on my own journey to learn my true path to healing.

I’d pretty much turned-over every rock trying to find relief for my pain, sleep issues and a myriad of other symptoms…

Fast-forward 18 years.

I was determined to climb one of the true wonders of the natural world, Machu Picchu, the mystical home of the Incas in Peru.

It was there, after a grueling day when my feet, knees, legs, and lower back hurt so bad, that I thought I would have to abandon hopes of our next climb which was Rainbow Mountain! That night I pulled out a little spray bottle of “aceite de magnesio” that a friend had given me before I left on my trip.

What the heck, I thought. I was desperate. And I applied it all over my body before bed.

Because of the grueling day, I woke up expecting to be immobilized, but instead we were off to climb Rainbow Mountain and…I was totally pain-free!

I know it sounds impossible, but it’s 1000% the truth.
