COVID Outcomes among Patients Receiving Vitamin D, Magnesium, and B12

In so many ways, the name of the game where health and wellness is concerned is balance. When a proper balance is achieved, health is the natural result. The ancient practice of Ayurveda speaks to this quite efficiently. The whole philosophy is based on the idea that we need healthy levels of many kinds of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Healthy levels of exercise, and rest too. Healthy levels of work, and play. It’s all connected, and it all informs everything else. So the more we can keep our levels in check, be they be nutritional, physical or philosophical, the healthier we will be.

Our understanding of coronavirus, and COVID-19, is still so new. Studies are being done on everything we can think of, and some great research is coming out of it. Different combinations of vitamins and therapies are providing some important insights and helping people in the process, which is wonderful. One thing that is so interesting about all these studies, is how the therapies, wide-ranging though they are, do indeed help a certain percentage of people. It’s not just pie in the sky figures… there is real healing to be seen there.

Perhaps it speaks to those all-important levels. It’s no secret that significant portions of all populations, in every society, are deficient in so many different ways.

The Importance Of Vitamin D For Immunity

Vitamin D is immensely important to a well-functioning immune system, and has been suggested as a supplement to add to one’s wellness arsenal, from the very start of the coronavirus pandemic. Why? Vitamin D helps tell our immune cells where to go and what to do. This little weapon comes in handy, particularly during flu season.

The flu is more common in the wintertime, that pattern is quite clear. In fact, for several years running, the month of February has won the prize for peak flu activity. Why is it so predictable?

Two reasons:

  1. The flu virus lives longer outside the human body when the environment is cold and dry. As temperatures begin to dip in October, it has lots more time to hang around on surfaces and infect more people.
  2. Because there’s no sun high in the sky, people have lower levels of vitamin D in the winter months.

But by simply boosting your intake of vitamin D, you have so much more power to fight the flu virus. And many other pathogens too. A healthy immune system can do incredible things. In fact, a cohort study evaluating the effect of a combination of vitamin D, magnesium, and vitamin B12 (DMB) on older COVID-19 patients, shows promising results.

Vitamins D, B12, and Magnesium Reduce Severe Outcomes

Though the June 2020 study is not yet peer-reviewed, it revealed a 71% drop in the need for oxygen therapy, in hospitalized COVID-19 patients over the age of 50 years who were given an oral combination of vitamin D (1000 IU/day), Magnesium (150 mg/day), and Vitamin B12 (500 mcg/day).

The study found that those receiving the combination were much less likely to need oxygen therapy or intensive care support. That means that simply taking vitamin D, magnesium and vitamin B12 supported these patients’ immune and lung function enough to help their bodies heal.

For patients who did not take the supplement combination, 16 of the 26 (62%) required oxygen therapy.

These findings are exciting, and for those with low vitamin D levels, it could be a game-changer. Do you know your levels? A medical professional can help you learn where you’re at, and how you can potentially get even stronger.

Research shows that taking this one vitamin has the potential toreduce the duration and severity of upper respiratory tract infectionsas well as supporting the fight against chronic diseases.

Yup not only that but addMagnesiumto the mix and you have just tapped into the dynamic-duo of immune support.

As someone who lives with MS, I have to be extra careful right now and that includes ensuring that my immune system is fortified. My protocol includes daily Vitamin C, Vitamin D3+K2 all fortified with Magnesium along with tons of fruits and vegetables.

The world is changing fast and now more than ever we all need to focus on immune health through proper diet, exercise, stress management, and supplementation.
